He was one of the leading generals who fought against Spain during the Mexican War of Independence. According to historian Theodore G. Vincent, Vicente Guerrero lived alongside indigenous people in Tlaltelulco and had the ability to speak Spanish and the languages of the Indigenous.

During his presidency, he abolished slavery in Mexico. Guerrero was deposed in a rebellion by his vice-president, Anastasio Bustamante. Provided by Wikipedia
